Green Lake Engagement Photography - Whistler | Kristy & Jon
I had the pleasure of capturing engagement photographs for Kristy & Jon whilst they were up in Whistler, as well as some family photos with their 3 month old baby girl Taylor. We met at Nicklaus North Golf Course on Green Lake and took a short walk around to ‘the spit’ - a unique sand bar that reaches out onto Green Lake. A great spot for a picnic and to watch the float planes come and go, it’s also a great area for photographs too!
Green Lake is a large glacier fed lake north of Whistler village - it has a stunning turquoise/green colour, and is Whistler’s largest lake. Nicklaus North Golf Course offers one of the best patios in Whistler- ‘Table Nineteen’, overlooking the beautiful Green Lake and floatplane dock - a great place for a Whistler wedding too - this is where Kristy and Jon are getting married next year!
Here’s a little bit about Kristy and Jon:
How did you guys meet?
“We have known each other for almost 10 years through a mutual friend. He used to actually date one of my best friends for a brief period of time way back and a few years later she tried to get us together. It never worked out as both of us were always dating someone else and I lived in Vancouver BC for a while. I came to visit one summer 4 years ago and it was the right time as both of us were single and have been together ever since!”
Jon planned a pretty awesome proposal up at Garibaldi Lake, their first date was in the mountains at Joffre Lakes, so he always knew he was going to propose to Kristy on a mountain somewhere.
What is special to you about Whistler?
“Whistler has always held a special place in my heart. It is a home away from home for me, so now Jon and I both love to spend as much time as we can in whistler with my family (sis who lives in whistler and parents have a condo). We can enjoy activities year round, we love snowboarding, golfing, mountain biking, paddle boarding on Alta lake and of course spending lots of time at our favourite patio Nicholas North Table Nineteen, where we are getting married May 1 2021.
How did you find having an engagement style photo session combined with family?
“It worked out great for us doing a combination engagement/family photo session. We had Taylor March 3 2020 and because of Covid it was hard to get newborn/family photos. We also weren't necessarily planning on getting engagement photos, as family photos were more important to us. When the opportunity came up to have both it worked out so nicely! Luckily it was a nice day so while we were doing our engagement photos Taylor (who luckily is very chill) hung out in her stroller until it was her time to shine! It was nice doing the combination considering we will be getting married Next May 1 2021, so if we were to do engagement, family and wedding photos that would be a lot of photo shoots in such a short time frame.”
Congratulations again Kristy and Jon - I can’t wait to photograph your wedding next year!
